Toothless one-year-olds likely to need braces

A new study has revealed that children with few teeth by age one are more likely need braces in later life.

Researchers from the University of Oulu in Finland and two British universities claimed that there is a link between the later emergence milk teeth and the need for future orthodontic work.

The boffins found that children with a specific genetic varient were more likely to have less milk teeth by the age of one and that these kids were more likely to need orthodontic care by the age of 30.

The genetic codes of more than 5,000 Fins and Brits were monitored from birth.

Prof Marjo-Riitta Jarvelin, of Imperial College London, claimed that the discoveries might also be used to discover whether certain people will develop disorders in later life.
