Teeth whitening is not just a cosmetic treatment but a fashion statement, reports Business Daily Africa.
"Most of my clients are in the entertainment, airline and beauty industries where image is vital," remarked Dr Faith Njoroge of Innovative Dental Clinic.
She added that many Africans are now more aware of the appearance of their teeth, leading many to smile less because of low self-esteem.
"They have no confidence because they are afraid of how their teeth look," said Dr Njoroge.
In some cases, where teeth are severely discoloured, crowning is a better solution than bleaching, Dr Miasey Mgugi of Dental Centre told the news source.
Dr Ngugi explained that due to cost and visibility, the front six teeth are usually the only ones treated.
The Listerine-sponsored Smile Week survey for the British Dental Health Foundation found that 40 per cent of the UK thinks white teeth are the most important aspect of an attractive smile.
