Tooth Bus Hopes to Promote Oral Health in Hampshire

Sample News Big

A Tooth Bus has been stationed in Aldershot all this week to try and encourage the people of Hampshire to take good care of their teeth and gums and make use of NHS dental services in the local area.

Figures show that less than half of Hampshire residents have seen a dentist over the course of the last 12 months – despite that fact that dentists encourage patients to have a check-up every 6-12 months. Missing out on regular check-ups increases the risk of dental diseases, such as tooth decay and gum disease, and studies show that poor oral health can increase the risk of life-threatening conditions.

Rachael Alley is the co-ordinator of the Tooth Bus campaign and said that the aim was to promote NHS dental services, encourage people to register with their local dentist and raise awareness of the importance of good oral health.

The Tooth Bus offered free dental check-ups for anyone in the area. Dentists provided a full check-up and also offered advice about oral hygiene. Dentists also spent time explaining treatment options to those patients who required further treatment and provided information about NHS services in the area.
