Thousands flock to free clinic on day three of seven-day event
A seven-day clinic is still attracting huge crowds in Los Angeles.
The event, which is being sponsored by Remote Area Medical, a non-profit organisation based in Tennessee, is now on its fourth day at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The clinic is still attracting thousands of people, with over three thousand people already benefitting on the first three days.
The clinic is a huge undertaking, with over 300 volunteer nurses, doctors and dentists offering a range of services including immunisations, basic dental treatments, health check-ups and mammograms, to name but a few.
The seven-day event has provided a beacon of hope for several thousand local residents; the number of Americans without health and dental insurance plans is increasing and millions of people are struggling to access the care they desperately need. This clinic offers them the opportunity to get the care they need free of charge.
Despite having a team of over 300 volunteers, there simply isn’t enough time to treat everyone that needs help; hundreds of people have already been turned away and many have been asked to return later in the week.
