Terrace City Dentists Preparing for Bangladesh Mission

Sample News Big

A group of dentists from the Terrace City area is preparing for a trip to Bangladesh to help people in need.

The group is joining up with a larger party from Loma Linda University in California. Dentist, Dr Vincent Drouin, has already visited Bangladesh before and is relishing the opportunity to return to the country. Dr Drouin will be accompanied by three dentists from his office, two dental hygienists, one dental assistant and his father, who is a registered nurse.

This will be the third trip Dr Drouin has made to Bangladesh, where the standards of oral health are very poor and it is extremely difficult for people to access even the most basic dental services. He said that many of the locals still believe in alternative forms of medicine and many chew on beetle nut juice, which increases the risk of decay and is also associated with higher risks of oral cancer and other oral health diseases.

During their stay in Bangladesh the team will be staying in an old school. In addition to providing dental treatment, the team will also be taking time to talk to locals about oral hygiene and oral health issues and they hope to be able to build a trusting relationship and persuade them of the importance of healthy teeth and gums, as there is still a belief that white teeth are to be frowned upon.

The team will travel to Bangladesh on the 16th March and will spend 10 days there.
