Surveys To Determine Rates Of Decay Among 3 Year Olds In The UK

Sample News Big

The Department of Health has confirmed that surveys will be carried out to determine the oral health status of 3 year olds in the UK.

Epidemiology surveys will be conducted to determine rates of decay among 3 year olds. The aim of the studies is to measure the prevalence of decay and ascertain information about the progression of decay in pre-school children. The results of the survey will be used to inform planners about the timing of oral health interventions in order to reach targets for 5 year old children.

The surveys will involve 3 year old children who attend child care organisations in each local authority; the findings will act as a baseline for comparison for future years, as well as providing planners and oral health experts and health ministers with information about the oral health of pre-school children across the country.

Chief Dental Officer, Dr Barry Cockcroft has written to directors of children’s services and public health and oral health directors to make them aware of the upcoming survey and encourage them to link up with the relevant childcare institutions.
