Super Foods For Oral Health

Sample News Big

You may be familiar with a list of foods to avoid to protect your pearly whites, but did you know that there are foods that can actually improve your oral health?

Most people will have been warned about the dangers of eating sugary treats and drinking acidic, fizzy drinks by their dentists, but there are actually some foods that can make a positive difference to your oral health.

While cakes, biscuits and chocolate may be off the menu, foods such as salmon, quinoa, basil, onions, broccoli and Shitake mushrooms are very much on the menu if you are looking to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Salmon is rich in omega 3 oils, which help to prevent inflammation, while basil is a natural antibiotic, which helps to reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth. Quinoa is a food rich in protein and calcium, which helps to keep teeth and bones strong and the sulphur compounds found in onions can help to kill off harmful Streptococcus bacteria.

Broccoli contains iron, which can help to create a protective barrier against harmful decay, while fruits that are rich in vitamin C, such as pineapple, can act as natural whitening agents. Shitake mushrooms help to prevent plaque from clinging to the teeth and gums, which reduces the risk of decay and gum disease.
