Staff members from leading dental manufacturer, Straumann, have raised more than £25,000 by completing a grueling cycle ride from Basel in Switzerland, where the company is based, to the UK headquarters in Crawley.

The team of 30 completed the 600 mile bike ride, which took in all kinds of terrains, over a six day period. The team cycled from Basel to France and then caught the ferry across the channel to Dover and then boarded their bikes to complete the route.

Members of the cycle team said that the first two days were the most difficult due to the mountainous terrain and altitude.

The 30-strong team raised more than £25,000 for dental charity, Bridge2Aid, which provides equipment and training for dental practitioners in Tanzania and there are plans to expand the programme into Rwanda. Money was also donated to the Cleft Lip and Palate Association, which provides care for children and families affected by clefts, a common birth defect.

Steve Booth, managing director of Straumann UK and leader of the cycle team, said that the six day challenge had been inspiring and a great way for colleagues to work together to raised money for a good cause. Mr Booth thanked everyone who had taken part and all those who donated money to the charities.
