A dentist from Stirling is all smiles after returning home from the Olympics; Patricia Manson, from Bannockburn Dental Practice, volunteered at the London Games.

Patricia was one of just five dentists assigned to a specific venue at the Games; she volunteered at the basketball arena and said that having access to the Olympic Park every day was an incredible opportunity. Patricia said that she never got tired of walking around the park and soaking up the atmosphere and even spent time there on her days off.

Patricia was a volunteer in the Field of Play medical team, which provided assistance to athletes when they were injured; she said that thankfully, she did not have too many injuries to treat and was able to enjoy the sport and get involved with the action at the arena.

Patricia said that the basketball arena had an amazing atmosphere and was always buzzing, especially when the American team was on court, as the sport is so poplar in the USA and the team featured some of the best-known players in the world. Patricia said that she was star-struck when she found herself just 20 metres away from First Lady Michelle Obama.

In her time off, Patricia was lucky enough to get to the velodrome to see Jason Kenny win his gold medal and the Olympic Stadium to see Usain Bolt run in the heats of the 200 metres.
