Plans for a brand new health and dental centre in Kilsyth have taken a step in the right direction.

NHS Lanarkshire outlined the plan for the new health centre at a board meeting at the end of February; the proposed centre will be located next to the swimming pool in the town centre and will replace the existing facility at Burngreen Park.

The new centre, which will cost around £7.8 million, will house a GP surgery, a dental practice, physiotherapy and mental health services, speech and language and podiatry services.

Chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire, Ian Ross, said that the proposals were very exciting and would enable the trust to deliver first class NHS services to the people of Kilsyth. The approval of the business model marks a major step in the right direction.

A planning application for the centre was submitted in December and the planning committee at North Lanarkshire Council will consider the proposals this month.

The health board claims that proposals have been drawn up with the help of health experts, members of staff and stakeholders to ensure that the building meets the needs of the community.

NHS Lanarkshire is hoping to open three new health centres, including two in East Kilbride and Wishaw in addition to the Kilsyth facility.

The health board is planning to complete the new Kilsyth centre in 2015 if the plans are approved by the planning committee.
