Southport Dentist Takes on More Child Patients Amid Shocking Statistics

Sample News Big

A dentist in Southport is taking on more child NHS patients after it was revealed children aren’t getting their teeth checked regularly.

NHS Digital statistics show that 40% of children in England failed to go to a dental check up in 2015.

10 Dental, a private practice in Southport, is opening up spaces to allow more children access to NHS treatment. Sarah Ocallaghan, assistant manager at the practice, said the team like to build a relationship with their younger patients to help children feel better about coming to the dentist.

She said that after hearing the news, they decided to take on NHS children as they have the room to do so. The practice does have NHS child patients, but most of their patients are private and come for regular check-ups.

In a bid to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, dentists encourage parents to start introducing their children as early as possible, so they get used to visiting a dentist on a regular basis.
