An orthodontic centre in South Wales has been revamped just days after Llanelli patients were informed that they would have to travel for treatment following the closure of Pencastell Orthodontics in Murray Street.

The Hywel Dda Health Board confirmed that Pencastell Orthodontics in Llanelli and Castle Hill Orthodontics in Carmarthen have closed and all orthodontic patients will now be treated at The Orthodontic Centre at the Parade in Carmarthen.

The Orthodontic Centre has undergone a £350,000 refurbishment project and the health board has revealed that the centre is now kitted out with the latest equipment, including a brand new digital X-ray suite.

Darren Hills, specialist orthodontist and manager of Q Dental Care, the firm that manages The Orthodontic Centre, said that the team is “really excited” to expand the business and provide excellent quality care to NHS patients in the area.

Sian-Marie Jones, vice-chair of the Hywel Dda Board, praised the team at the Orthodontic Centre and said that they had made a great effort to provide local residents with the best facilities.

Staff and patients at Pencastell Orthodontics have not been so generous with their praise however, as many have been left with a lengthy trip to see their dentist and staff were only given one week’s warning about the closure of the Llanelli surgery. Patients will now have to drive 24 miles or rely on public transport to get to The Orthodontic Centre, but health bosses are eager to stress the benefits of the new practice.
