A popular soap star has opened a new dental clinic in Caversham.

Eastenders favourite, Rudolph Walker, cut the ribbon at Prospect Street Dental Practice recently. Best known for playing Patrick Trueman, Rudolph has been a patient at the practice for over 20 years. The 83-year-old was thrilled to declare the new site open in front of the dental team and fellow patients at an event on Thursday 15th December.

The practice has expanded and will continue to use the existing premises across the road. The new site was previously occupied by Jennings of Caversham, a local butcher.

Speaking about the practice, Rudolph said that he had been coming for many years and described it as a “fantastic” practice. He praised the team and said that it was a real bonus that the business is family-run.

Dentist Eileen Buckley remembers Rudolph’s first visit. He sat in the waiting room hiding under his hat so nobody would recognise him, she said. From then, he has been attending regularly and the team was delighted that he agreed to come to the opening and cut the ribbon.

The new clinic will enable the team to treat more patients and make it easier for patients to get appointments, according to Darragh Buckley, Eileen’s son, who is also a dentist at the practice. The practice has been running for over 40 years and the list was full. There are also difficulties linked to access with the original site, which means that some elderly patients and those with limited mobility have to be referred elsewhere for treatment.

The new clinic will enable patients to access treatment rooms and waiting areas easily and it has space for specialists to visit more frequently.
