Residents in Sheffield have been actively encouraged to get involved in National Smile Month, a national campaign which is run by the British Dental Health Foundation to raise awareness of oral health and encourage people to look after their teeth and gums.

Over the course of the last four weeks, oral health promotions teams and dental professionals across the city have been working to promote the campaign and get people involved in events and activities which focus on oral health matters. Oral Health Action teams have visited schools and spent time talking to community groups and individuals about oral health and pharmacies across the city have been handing out oral health goody bags.

This year’s theme was The Smile Factor and people of all ages were invited to take part in a series of events and fun activities, with the aim of educating people about oral health and at the same time allowing them to have fun.

Kate Jones, director of public dental health at NHS Sheffield, said that it was really important for people to look after their teeth because the smile is often the first feature people notice.
