A Jersey Senator has called for mobile dental units to be introduced on the island to enable professionals to improve access to dental services for children and older people.

Senator Alan Breckon wants to launch two mobile units to visit primary schools and provide care for pensioners on their doorstep. He claimed that many people were having dental treatment as a last resort because they could not afford the cost of regular appointments and stressed the importance of good oral health for people of all ages.

Senator Breckon estimated that cost of launching the project at around one million pounds, with running costs of £1 million per year. He suggested that the mobile units be funded by the government’s health insurance fund.

If you are unable to find a place with a local NHS dentist, then ensuring that you are in the best of dental health by brushing, flossing and using mouthwash every day can go a long way to ensuring your oral health. However, regularly visiting a dentist is the very best way to keep your teeth in the best condition and if you are unable to find an NHS dentist, many private practices offer affordable payment plans for their clients.
