Scottish Dental Care, one of Scotland’s largest dental chains, has added two Edinburgh practices to its growing portfolio.

Founded in 2016 by brothers, Philip and Christopher Friel, Scottish Dental Care recently added Edinburgh-based St John’s Road and East Craigs practices. The two clinics are run by Dr Hew Mathewson and his family. The family has built the business over the past 45 years.

Prior to the latest acquisition, Scottish Dental Care had fifteen practices across the country. The company has ambitions to grow quickly and received a multi-million pound investment from BGF in February 2022.

Managing director, Christopher, said that the latest additions to the chain represent “a continuation of our growth plans, with the extension of our Advanced Dentistry brand into Edinburgh.” The investment from BGF earlier this year has enabled the business to expand and the management team is looking forward to continued growth in the months and years ahead. Mr Friel added that the input from BGF had benefitted the business “immensely.”

BGF investor, Chris Nixon, said, “We are delighted that our investment has helped Scottish Dental Care to gain a strategic foothold in Scotland’s capital through the acquisition of two high-quality clinics.”
