Scientists Discover the Real Causes of Dental Decay

Sample News Big

Scientists from the Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, Dundee and Newcastle are currently involved in a new dental study.

The recent study aims to look at the main causes of tooth decay, amongst young children in particular. Over fifty dental practices have signed up to the study, which includes 1,400 children in order to combat tooth decay by discovering its primary causes.

More than 40% of children in the UK suffer from tooth decay by the age of 5, this is a common and preventable dental disease. Unfortunately, the statistic has remained the same for over 20 years, which is why the new study is imperative.

Paediatric dentist, Chris Deery, has stated that the trial will also encourage both parents and children alike to decide on which types of dental treatments they prefer. Through this they hope to give the researchers a true insight into how future patients should be treated for dental decay problems.

The study is still ongoing and will hope to find the root causes of dental decay, which will lead to the prevention of problems relating to it in the near future.
