Saskatchewan cabinet may change dental payment regulations

The Health Minister, Don McMorris has announced that the Saskatchewan Party will reconsider regulations surrounding payment for dental reconstruction surgery as soon as possible.

The announcement comes after a case involving a man from Prince Albert came to light; the man had required surgery following the removal of a tumour from his jaw bone but the province would not cover the cost of his reconstructive surgery. In other provinces, including New Brunswick, Alberta and British Columbia the state would have paid for the surgery.

According to the NDP (National Democratic Party) there are currently two similar cases, which need investigating involving patients who have asked the state to pay for dental reconstruction surgery.

Opposition parties have condemned the situation, saying that ministers have only decided to act because they had been forced to. Mr McMorris will begin talks with his team in the near future and it is hoped that an announcement on the subject of payment regulation will be made soon.
