A state-of-the-art dental clinic which treats patients with special needs will soon be opening in San Antonio.

A first for Texas, the Trinity Surgery Center will be established at The South Texas Medical Center, 2116 Babcock Road.

Plans for the clinic were announced by Gordon Hartman on 27 January 2010 and he revealed that the clinic should be operational by the summer.

The 6,500 square-foot surgery has been designed by Luna Architecture and will be the first surgery in Texas that will provide comprehensive dental treatment for people with special needs.

Project partner Dr Henry Chu said that many special needs patients are unable to have treatment at general dental practices as they may need general anaesthesia or other specific dental services.

He added that he was extremely excited about the centre and called it “revolutionary”.

The surgery will specialize in treating patients with Down’s Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s as well as sufferers of Muscular Dystrophy, Renal Disease, chemotherapy patients, hypertension, and dental phobia. This list goes on.

It has been designed with the needs of all these patients in mind.

Much needed service in the community. It’s great some doctors have a heart for individuals with special needs.
