Ryedale Dentist Takes on Cycle Challenge to Fund New Antibiotics Research

A dentist from Ryedale is taking on a cycle challenge to fund valuable research for new antibiotics.

Birdgate Dental’s Sarah Glover is riding 20 miles per day for 20 days to raise money for Antibiotics Research UK. The money she raises will go towards pioneering research into developing new antibiotic drugs.

Sarah chose the theme of the challenge because she has been working at the practice for 20 years. She’s also asked patients, colleagues and members of the public to donate 20 pence pieces to the cause.

Sarah started the challenge on Monday 18th July and plans to finish on 6th August, which is the date she started at Birdgate Dental as a graduate dentist. She has so far battled unpredictable weather conditions, including a heatwave, but she is doing well and is determined to get to the finish line. Sarah is worknig full-time throughout the challenge and she also suffers from exercise-induced anaphylaxis, which means she has to be incredibly careful and pace herself each day.

Antibiotics Research UK is the UK’s first charity devoted solely to developing new antibiotic medicines. The charity was founded in 2014 by a group of clinical experts hoping to develop drugs that will be available by 2020.
