Ryedale dental practice invests in innovative virus-killing technology

A dental practice in Ryedale has become the first in the UK to install Radic8, an innovative unit, which kills 99.9% of respiratory viruses, including coronavirus.

Riverdale Healthcare in Kirkbymoorside, is believed to be the first UK clinic to showcase the virus-killing technology. The unit, known as Radic8, kills viruses by releasing sterilised air on a continual basis. As practices work to secure treatment rooms and protect patients and staff members, the technology will enable dentists to clean and sterilise rooms during and after appointments, creating a safer space for patients and dental teams.

Ian Gordon, director at Riverdale Healthcare, said that the unit provides a solution for one of the most significant challenges faced by dental practice owners in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis. It can be incredibly difficult to sterilise and sanitise treatment rooms due to the threat of droplets travelling through the air. The Radic8 unit sterilises the air continuously, dramatically reducing the risk of individuals transmitting and catching the virus.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone, Mr Gordon explained, and he hopes that this investment will shield staff and patients for many years to come. This is an additional step on top of infection control measures and guidelines that have been enforced at practices in line with recommendations from NHS England and Public Health England. With robust practices in place, teamed with the Radic8 unit, patients can enjoy the experience of going to the dentist with minimal risks attached.
