Plymouth Albion rugby players are telling youngsters to wear mouth guards.

The club has teamed-up with the Peninsula Dental School in a scheme which aims to protect kids who participate in contact sports.

The players will take up the role of mouth guard ambassadors and will be tackling the issue at rugby, boxing and hockey clubs across the city.

Graham Dawe, Albion chairman, said that the players were looking forward to encouraging safety in sport, as it is paramount.

He added that active youngsters that are involved in contact sports should have well-fitting gum shield.

Dr Gill Jones, director of community dentistry at Peninsula, which is part of the University of Exeter, the University of Plymouth and the NHS, said that the school was delighted to support the all the Plymouth Albion teams.

She added that it was important not only to treat professional players but to support local communities too.
