Royal Marines to Open Brand New Medical and Dental Unit

Royal Marines based in Bickleigh, are preparing to open a brand new medical and dental unit on Friday.

The state of the art unit, which cost £3.1 million, is located within the base of 42 Commando. The unit will provide a full range of dental treatments, physiotherapy and clinical care services.

The dental unit boasts all the latest equipment, including portable instruments and machines, which can be used when the Marines are on tour or deployed in foreign countries. The department will be staffed by dentists, dental nurses and dental hygienists.

Surgeon Captain Richard Norris, director of the Royal Naval Dental Serrvices, said that oral health has been an important factor for the Royal Marines over the years and the new dental unit will enable dentists to continue to provide excellent standards of care and allow the Marines to benefit from the latest treatments and techniques.

Surgeon Lieutenant Amelia Pedrick, Senior Dental Surgeon for 42 Commando, said that the team is looking forward to increase the range of preventative and hygiene services available to the Marines.
