Royal dental X-rays withdrawn from auction

A unique lot of dental X-rays has been withdrawn from auction.

The lot, which contained dental X-rays of King George VI, his wife and their daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, was due to go under the hammer at an auction in Cirencester last week but the Royal family requested that the lot be withdrawn.

The images were found by Alistair Sealy when he bought a house in Surrey; the house had been owned previously by a dental nurse called Betty Jacques and she had left several boxes of possessions, one which contained the dental X-rays.

The X-rays were due to be auctioned at Dominic Winter Auctions but the Royal household contacted the auction house to ask them to withdraw the lot. Chris Albury, who was working in the saleroom at the time, said that he was surprised to receive the call but respected the wishes of the Royal family.
