Rotherham patients concerned about infection

Sample News Big

A number of patients in Rotherham have contacted their local Primary Care Trust after it was revealed that a local dentist was being investigated in connection with failing to use sterile instruments and keep his surgery clean.

Mohammed Siddiqui hit the headlines recently because investigators were concerned about the lack of cleanliness in the surgery; Siddiqui had also been using non-sterile instruments, re-used syringes and actively discouraged staff from wearing gloves. Mr Siddiqui was suspended by Rotherham Primary Care Trust in May last year.

Since it was revealed that Mr Siddiqui has been suspended, a number of patients have contacted Rotherham PCT because they are concerned about the risk of infection. Dental Public Health consultant Ken Wragg said there was a very low risk of infection; however, a telephone help line has been set up to help worried patients. The help line will be open from 9am until 5pm.

Mohammed Siddiqui is currently waiting to hear about the results of an appeal against his removal from the Rotherham dental providers list; the Family Unit Services Appeal Unit will announce their decision in the next ten days.
