A dental hygienist from Ross-shire is all smiles after being crowned Scotland’s best dental hygienist.

She is from Conon Bridge and her name is Karen Scott. Karen was presented with her award at the Scottish Dental Awards ceremony, which took place last week in Glasgow.

She is based at Dingwall’s Ross Memorial Hospital and she also works part-time at Albany Dental Care in Invergordon.

Last week, the 49 year old joined colleagues at the event at Hampden Park and said that she was delighted to receive the award and very relieved that she did not have to make a speech.

Karen has been an employee of NHS Highland for more than thirty years and she was nominated for the award by one of her colleagues, dental nurse, Jennifer Mackenzie.

Jennifer said that Karen deserved the award because she is “brilliant” with patients, she motivates patients and helps them to enjoy good oral health, she goes the extra mile to make the experience positive for nervous patients and children and she always takes time to get to know her clients.

Karen was not expecting to win and said that she is “still in shock” a week later. She was presented with the award for Dental Hygienist/Therapist of the Year by one of the judges, Margaret Ross.
