Rory McIlroy Regrets Leaving Golf Course After Suffering Tooth Ache

The world’s number one golfer, Rory McIlroy, has spoken out after leaving the golf course during a tournament last week claiming he was suffering from severe tooth ache.

McIlroy was taking part in the Honda Classic tournament in the USA last week and walked out mid-way through the round, claiming that he could not continue because of tooth ache.

The Irish golfer has since attracted criticism from fellow golfers and icons of the game, Jack Nicklaus and Ernie Els. Even Tiger Woods, who has attracted headlines for all the wrong reasons for the last couple of years advised Rory to think before he said anything following the incident.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, McIlroy admitted that walking off was not the right thing to do and described his actions as “reactive”; he added that leaving the course during the round was not “good for the tournament, not good for the kids and the fans who were out there watching me.”

McIlroy left the course after dropping seven shots over eight holes and it was believed that he was suffering from extreme dental pain, which was preventing from concentrating fully; however, when he left the course he said that the reason was not physical.

McIlroy’s dentist, Mark Conroy, who is based in Belfast, is believed to have faxed details of the condition, believed to be linked to his wisdom teeth, over for the number 1 to use as evidence for the PG Tour HQ; if he did not have a reasonable excuse, he could have been given a ban or a fine.
