Resolute Residents Celebrate Success as Frinton Dental Surgery Stays Open

Resolute patients and councillors in Frinton have plenty to smile about after winning the battle to keep a local NHS dental surgery open.

Residents have been campaigning to save Southern Dental amid reports some members of the council wanted to use their proposed new site for retail purposes. The practice is due to relocate to premises previously occupied by Spar Supermarket and some councillors objected to this, recommending that the entire space be devoted to retail.

At a meeting recently, the proposed move was backed unanimously by planning committee members and the team is now looking forward to getting into the new premises. The move will take place before Christmas, practice manager Siobhan Williams confirmed.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms Williams stated that the approval would enable the residents of Frinton to access dental care close to home. If the move had been rejected, there’s a good chance Southern Dental would have been forced out of the town.

Some councillors objected to the move, stating that the surgery would occupy “prime shopping frontage”, however many agreed that it was important to keep an NHS dentist in the town. The owners now have four months to complete the relocation.
