Relief for patients in Flint as new NHS dental provider takes over Bupa practice

Dental patients in Flint are breathing a sigh of relief after a new NHS provider was found to take over the former Bupa Dental practice.

The clinic, which is located on Acorn Business Park, has been taken over by Limewood Dental Care. Bupa Dental announced that it would shut the Flint practice earlier this year, ceasing services in May 2022. The newly-refurbished Limewood Dental Care practice will reopen in mid-June.

There was widespread concern among patients in the area when Bupa Dental revealed the news and thousands of residents thought they would lose access to NHS dental services. All patients who were registered with Bupa Dental will transfer to Limewood Dental Care.

When Bupa Dental announced that it was stopping NHS services in May, the health board set about looking at alternative options “to ensure continuity of service.”

Delyn MP, Rob Roberts, who was involved in talks with the local health board, Bupa Dental representatives and constituents, said that the practice will continue to offer NHS treatments under the new name of Limewood Dental Care. Refurbishment work is currently underway and the surgery will reopen in mid-June. The practice will continue to offer emergency work during the transitional stage.

Mr Roberts hailed the development as “great news for Flint” but stressed that more needs to be done to improve NHS dental services across the region. He added that he will continue to work with the health board to try to increase capacity and ensure that all residents have access to the services they need.
