Emily Cheeseman finally has something to smile about, at the age of 28.

Emily had a full set of baby teeth when she was a child; however, she was left with six milk teeth because the adult teeth, which should have replaced them, failed to grow due to a condition known as hypodontia.

Emily, now 28, has been undergoing treatment for seven years and now has a full set of adult teeth. Her new smile has completely transformed her life; she is now bubbly and vibrant and can’t stop smiling. Before the treatment, Emily was very self-conscious about the way she looked and rarely smiled in case people noticed her teeth. Emily also had trouble eating and was constantly worried about her milk teeth chipping or breaking.

Emily’s milk teeth were removed under general anaesthetic in Birmingham; she then wore a brace to create the space required for implants. Now, the final piece of the jigsaw has been put in place and Emily’s dental implants were fitted to complete her new look.

Hypodontia is a rare condition but it can now be treated very effectively by replacing milk teeth or filling gaps with dental implants; dental implants are fine titanium rods, which are fitted into the sockets in the jawbone; they hold new crowns in place and can last for many years if they are properly looked-after.
