Reduction in Numbers at the General Dental Council

Sample News Big

The General Dental Council will be changing and reducing their members and structure in time for 2013. Also the chair of the GDC will be selected instead of being voted into the position and they do not need to be involved in dentistry. Currently there are twenty-four members but this will reduce down to only twelve with some involved in the dental industry and some of the member’s laypersons.

The General Medical Council will also be changing and reducing members although their changes will take place earlier towards the end of 2012.The changes are due to The Council for Healthcare Regularity Excellence suggesting the changes to both structures.

Whilst looking into the both councils structure the CHRE found that it would be an improvement if there were less members in the councils for a number of reasons and also that selecting the chair of the council would make recruiting such a person easier as they could look for the qualities needed for the role when deciding who would fit the role best. This means that the chair will be able to do their job effectively with the skill set needed.

There is no rule that states that there has to be a member from Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Island or for how many of the members should be dentists or in the dental professions.
