It was a happy day for Flight Sergeant Anita Thompson, when she received her St Johns Medal.

Anita, who manages the regional armed forces service, has been formally recognised by the Order of St John for her fantastic work in the field of dentistry. She is currently based at the RAF College in Cranwell and told reporters that she never expected to receive such an honour but that she also feels extremely proud about it.

Her speciality in the field of forensic dentistry ensured she would be spotted for her efforts by the Order of St John.

She was also recruited in the Royal Order of Chivalry after her outstanding efforts abroad. Anita arranged for a number of specialised forensic dentists to assist in the identification of hundreds of bodies after the 2004 Indonesian tsunami disaster, for example. She saw the desperation for more forensic dentists and so assisted in the specialist training of new recruits herself.
