Protesters Rally Against Fluoridation In Hampshire

Sample News Big

Protesters gathered outside Guildhall Square in Southampton to rally against water fluoridation.

More than one hundred people waved placards and banners in response to plans to add fluoride to the water in a number of communities in Hampshire, including Netley, Rownhams, Totton and Eastleigh. The plan is designed to improve standards of oral health and tackle tooth decay, but protesters claim that the scheme carries health risks.

Hampshire Against Fluoridation are calling for the proposed water fluoridation scheme to be scrapped, claiming that the programme will actually cause, rather than prevent, dental problems.

After gathering at Guildhall Square, the protesters marched through the city of Southampton, campaigning for support at Solent University Centre in Above Bar Street.

The campaign to add fluoride to the water is supported by dentists and public health experts, who believe that it will help to reduce rates of tooth decay, particularly in deprived areas.
