Profit Free Dental Practice

A dental practice in Weston-Super-Mare has become completely non-profit, in order to help sufferers of poor dental health in the local area. Severn Dental Centre is the first centre in the UK to be set up as a community interest company (CIC), so that good dental health can be made available to everyone.

Gus and Wendy van Reissen have worked on the idea for the last two years and love mixing good oral health with a community spirit. They hope to help local people, especially those who usually wouldn’t be able to afford dental treatment.

The couple outlined their future plans, saying,

“We are working in a mid-terrace house, close to the railway station and the seafront. We aim to create a modern dental surgery with an innovative way of delivering dentistry, aimed at high-needs patients and especially gum treatments, where we continuously invest in new skills and new technology, including most recently the installation of a new instrument sterilisation facility. That way we ensure that out patients have the very best that modern dentistry can offer.”

Most of the treatment available at the practice come under a NHS contract, but others can be carried out privately and anyone is able to join the clinic.
