Preventative Dental Programme helping to reduce Rates of Decay in Oman

Sample News Big

The Department of Dental and Oral Health in Oman has introduced preventative dental programmes to help to reduce rates of decay amongst children and adults in the country.

In recent years, initiatives and programmes have been introduced to try and combat dental decay and promote good oral health. Measures include preventative treatments, including fluoride varnish treatment and sealant treatments, screening programmes, regular dental check-ups for children and oral health education programmes.

Oral health surveys carried out in the past show that rates of decay are high in Oman, with up to 93 percent of children living in some regions suffering from dental decay. As a result of the alarming statistics, government ministers worked together with oral health experts to try and reduce rates of decay, improve education and improve access to oral healthcare.

Oral health problems are amongst the most prevalent preventable childhood illnesses in Omani children and studies have shown that decay and gum disease can affect children’s general health, as well as their confidence and their performance at school.
