Powys dental patients have something to smile about as board confirms new NHS provider

Dental patients in Powys have something to smile about after the local health board confirmed a new NHS provider.

Many patients were anxious about being able to access dental appointments after the mydentist surgery in Brecon closed. The practice has now been taken over and the new owner is in the process of recruiting staff.

Initially, the practice will be offering emergency dental care and services for priority patients. Once the clinic has a full team, the practice will be able to offer general NHS services.

Powys Teaching Health Board confirmed the news recently, adding that residents will be provided with more information in due course. Representatives have encouraged those waiting to see a dentist to be patient while the owner finds new staff for the team and to accept apologies for the lack of routine services when the surgery first opens.

The board recommends calling the Powys Dental Helpline on 01686 252 808 to find a dentist in the local area. Patients who don’t have a dentist and need urgent help can cause NHS 111. The service is available out of hours. If patients need to see an emergency dentist they will be referred to a local provider. For minor issues, there is advice and information available via the NHS 111 Wales website.

Details of the new practice will be released in the coming weeks, with more information about how patients can join the list and make appointments.
