Postage Price Increase Will Affect Dental Practices

Dental practices across the UK could be hit hard by a hike in postage prices confirmed by the Royal Mail.

A recent announcement confirmed that the price of postage stamps will increase by at least 25% next spring and small businesses, including dental practices, will be affected by the hike.

The Royal Mail suffered losses of £120 million from letters services in 2010 and there has been a decrease in volume of 25 % since 2006. The increase, which represents the biggest price hike ever, reflects the costs of running a nationwide service, which operates six days per week.

Many dental practices still use letters as their main form of communication for calling patients back, however, the increase in the cost of postage may cause them to consider other forms of communication, including text messages and emails. Many practices have already embraced new forms of communication and are using multimedia channels to reach out to patients and it is expected that the postage price hike will cause more surgeries to follow suit.

Greg Clay, marketing and sales director at Software of Excellence, sympathises with practices and said that he expects many to start using text messages and emails instead of letters, as they are cheaper, quicker and more reliable.
