Portsmouth Dentist Runs For Charity

A dental hygienist from Portsmouth is pounding the pavements in a bid to shape up for the Reading half marathon.

Wendy Evans, from Lockswood Dental Practice, has been training hard for the event, which she is running to raise money for a charity mission in Morocco. Wendy is travelling to Africa as part of a trip organised by Dentaid. In order to get to Morocco, Wendy needs to raise £1,300.

She has been working as a dental hygienist for twenty years and she decided it was time to give something back and use her experience and skills to help others. Dentaid organises projects in many different countries in order to help poorer people access dental care; many of the people helped by volunteers like Wendy, have never been to a dentist before.

Wendy said she decided to go with Dentaid because they support projects in more than 60 countries and make a real difference to people who have been suffering with dental pain for a long period of time.

She will spend a total of eight days working with other volunteers in Morocco to provide basic dental care and talk to local people about oral health.

The Reading half marathon takes place on Wednesday 5th March.
