A dentist from Portishead jumped on his bike over the weekend to take part in a tough charity challenge. Simon Robertson from FJ Dowler’s joined a team of riders to negotiate a three-day cycling event to raise money for a new defibrillator.

Simon was riding in support of the Portishead Lion’s bid to buy a defibrillator, which could potentially save lives. The route stretches from Portishead all the way through Somerset, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. On their travels, the team cycled through Bath, Salisbury, Frome and the New Forest. The ride started on Thursday 8th and finished in the afternoon on Saturday 10th.

Speaking about the appeal, Simon said the adventure was a great way to raise money for a really worthwhile cause. The money raised is not just used to buy equipment, it also enables people to undergo training and improves public awareness. The appeal has already resulted in defibrillators being placed in Portishead and Weston-in-Gordano and this equipment could help to prevent deaths in the future. Defibrillators can be used to resuscitate people in emergency situations. They are specialist pieces of equipment that can be employed immediately in the event of an accident or incident.
