A man who was detained by Robstown police may have been working as an illegal dentist, police have announced.

Jorge Alberto Gonzalez was arrested with a suitcase of dental equipment and police now suspect that he was working as a dentist in Houston, Texas; as far as the police are aware, he did not have a license to practice as a dentist.

Gonzalez was first arrested by Robstown police while he was driving; he was pulled over and police discovered $9,000 in cash. Around a month later, he was stopped again by police and found to have a suitcase full of dental supplies and equipment.

Lt. Gilbert Gomez said that some of the supplies were hidden under the lining of the suitcase, which looked very suspicious. Gomez said there were a number of different items stashed in the suitcase, including medications and items that are associated with carrying out dental work. Some of the substances found in the suitcase could not be identified and have been sent away for analysis.

Police said that Gonzalez would not say what he intended to do with the supplies; he was working as a dental assistant when he was arrested but his cell phone records have lead police to believe that he may have been working as a dentist illegally; he received several calls asking what time he was going to be open for business.

Gonzalez has been charged with possession of drugs and this charge could be upgraded if the laboratory test results show that the suitcase contained controlled substances.
