Police are investigating the sudden death of an Irish-Australian tourist who had travelled to Bali for dental treatment.

Niamh Finneran Loader, 25, had flown to Bali to undergo minor dental treatment, according to her father, Malcolm. Mr Loader said that he had spoken to her after the procedure and she was very happy with the results. Shortly after, he received news that his daughter had died. Very little is known about the circumstances and Malcolm said that they “have no idea” what caused her death.

Niamh was born in Ireland and her family moved to Australia when she was young. She was studying for a Master’s degree at the University of Western Australia when she flew to Bali. Her family has travelled to the Indonesian island to arrange for the repatriation of her body. A crowdfunding page to help with the cost of flying Niamh’s body home has raised over £20,000.

Indonesia is a very popular destination for Australian tourists and it has a thriving dental tourism market. Many people choose to travel to Bali to have dental treatment because prices are often much lower than in Australia and they can combine having treatment with taking a break.

Niamh’s cousin, who is based in the UK, thanked all those who have donated to the GoFundMe page and said that the family was “shocked by the tragic news.” She added that her family will keep pressing for information and updates and will never give up trying to get answers.
