A man who stole more than £700 from a dental practice in Plymouth has been jailed.

Thirty three year old, Andrew Boyle, has been jailed for six weeks for walking into the Smile Surgery in North Hill last December and stealing £740 in cash.

In court, Michael Brown, prosecuting, stated that the receptionist had counted out and placed a total of £740 in cash in a small white envelope in the petty cash tin, only for the thief to lean over and steal the cash. The incident was captured on CCTV and clearly shows Mr Boyle waiting for the receptionist to move and then taking the envelope containing the cash.

Mr Boyle was already on licence for a separate incident when he took the money.

At Plymouth Magistrate’s Court, Judge Ian Strongman jailed Boyle for six weeks and said that the offender now had “quite a bad record” for offences of this type. Judge Strongman said that he was aware that the incident was “probably a spur of the moment thing” but stated that he had stolen a large amount of money and therefore must be reprimanded.

The theft took place on the 9th December
