Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry has been awarded top spot after a recent round of inspections. The dental school was found to be performing best out of six dental schools around the country during a General Dental Council inspection.

The Plymouth school sailed through the latest round of inspections, taking it to the top of the pile of dental schools involved in the round. There were 29 standards to meet and Plymouth hit 28 and partially achieved the remaining one, which was also only partially met by the other schools.

The standards set by the GDC related to student assessment, equality and diversity and the protection of dental students. The inspection was designed to monitor quality standards and ensure that students are receiving a high level of education, in addition to the support, advice and protection they need to excel at university.

Inspectors were very impressed with Plymouth University Peninsula and highlighted positive feedback from students, strength in leadership, motivation and an excellent community outreach programme, which is really making a difference to the local towns and villages.

Head of the School of Dentistry, Professor Christopher Tredwin, said that everyone is delighted with the outcome of the inspection and thanked the staff and students involved for their hard work and commitment.
