A dental equipment firm based in Tamar Science Park, Plymouth, has appointed a new office manager as part of a national apprenticeship scheme.

SS Dental Services has experienced a period of growth and the firm has now taken on a new office manager with a view to developing the business. Aimee Thompson, 21 years old, had been looking for a job for two years after studying at Estover Community College and achieving an NVQ and A Level in Public Services at City College Plymouth.

As an apprentice Aimee qualifies for funded professional development and said that she is really enjoying the job and looking forward to the future and the challenges it will bring. Aimee is a member of the Territorial Army and she was involved in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Aimee described herself as a “quick learner” and said that she is looking forward to compiling a good business portfolio.

SS Dental Services was established by Paul Sutcliffe in 2011 and has enjoyed substantial growth since then. Earlier this month the company was named the best start-up in the South West and the firm also received the ISO 9001 quality benchmark certification.

Mr Sutcliffe said that many businesses are wary of taking on apprentices, but that he would strongly recommend it and made a point to praise Aimee for her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
