Plans to create a dental unit in an old warehouse in Selby have been unveiled.

Everatts, a furniture business that has been operating in the Growthorpe area for 75 years, is due to close and plans to convert the old warehouse premises into a dental unit have now been submitted. The company has been forced to close after a decline in sales. Plans have been submitted to Selby District Council to develop the warehouse into an orthodontic facility. Developers, Trinity House Orthodontics, are submitting a tender to NHS North Yorkshire and York to provide specialist orthodontic services to patients in Selby.

If plans for the orthodontic unit are approved, four new jobs will be created. Residents in the area have been invited to submit their comments and opinions on the proposals.

The main Everatts store is due to close for good on Saturday and the Chamber of Commerce is hoping that a number of pop-up shops will operate from the store in the run-up to Christmas. Representatives are hoping to convert the warehouse into an indoor precinct, which will house a number of small businesses, including arts and craft shops.
