Plans to open new NHS dental practice in Wymondham revealed

Plans to open a new NHS dental practice in Wymondham, South Norfolk, have been revealed.

The proposals are part of a wider plan to develop land north of Elm Farm Business Park. If the plans get the go ahead, the 2.7-acre site will be developed to create five new houses and a new dental surgery.

The towns of Wymondham and Hethersett have grown rapidly in recent years, increasing pressure on public services, including NHS dental clinics and community teams.

The dental practice will be run by Peppermint Dental Care, which already has a clinic in the town. The existing practice is currently closed to new patients and has more than 300 patients waiting to access NHS dental care. Access issues are worsening across Norfolk and a new dental surgery would make a huge difference to local patients.

A Healthwatch Norfolk report revealed that some patients are extracting their own teeth because they cannot get dental appointments with NHS dentists or afford to see a private dentist. Norfolk MPs have been pushing for investment in the area to improve NHS provision, including opening a new dental school at the University of East Anglia. Recently, plans to set up a new dental training facility at the University of Suffolk’s Ipswich campus were confirmed.
