Plans to extend Barnoldswick dental practice rejected

Plans to extend a dental practice in Barnoldswick have been rejected.

Planning officers have turned down an application from mydentist. The owners of the chain were hoping to triple the size of one of the town’s practices by creating a first-floor extension. The application to build the extension to the practice on Harrison Street was initially rejected by Pendle Council in March 2022. Now, mydentist’s appeal has been thrown out too.

The plans outlined proposals to create four additional treatment rooms, add air conditioning units and update windows and doors. The decision of the council has now been backed by a planning inspector.

The application was rejected due to concerns over parking and highway safety. The existing practice has five parking bays and is located within a residential area. No provision was made in the plans for additional spaces, which means that most patients and staff members who couldn’t park in the designated lot would have to park in the surrounding area, resulting in blocked pavements and access issues for residents. The inspector added that the area has narrow streets and said that increasing the size of the practice without adding parking would increase congestion during busy times.
