Plans For New Hospital Boasting Dental Suite Up For Debate In Whitby

Sample News Big

Health chiefs are discussing plans to downsize Whitby Hospital and create a new hospital, which would boast a dental suite and a physiotherapy facility.

Chiefs in the area believe that the current hospital is too large for the population and are considering plans to sell of part of the land in order to raise money for a new hospital, which would offer community services, including day care, physiotherapy and dental care.

Authorities believe that investing in community services would benefit local people who would be able to get the treatment they need at home or within the local area. In addition to the dental centre and physiotherapy department, there are also plans for an outpatient facility, a minor injuries unit and X-ray and ultrasound facilities.

Public talks are now in full swing, with plans to keep between 25 and 30 per cent of the land under debate; the remaining land would be sold off for housing or other developments and the money raised from the sale would be used to improve the current hospital, which chiefs believe is outdated.

Health chiefs have arranged a series of public meetings to discuss the issue and the draft version of plans has been created by Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group.
