Plans to create a new health centre in Buckshaw Village in Lancashire have been given the green light, it has been confirmed.

Work will begin on the new health centre in the coming weeks, after plans were approved by health bosses. The Buckshaw Village Surgery will house a GP surgery, an NHS dental practice, social and community care services and additional health services and will provide care for around 10,000 people in the local area.

Dr Nimal Muttucumaru will be moving from his current premises at Buckshaw Retirement Village once the building work is complete and said that there has been demand for a new health centre in the area and the facility will make care services more accessible for local people. He also added that it was a great opportunity for doctors, nurses and dentists to work in state of the art surgeries and to provide the best possible facilities for patients.

The opening of a new dental practice will give the residents of Buckshaw Village more choice and enable those who are currently registered with a dentist further afield to access the care they need closer to home.

Eric Wright Construction will carry out the building work. At the moment there is no planned opening date, but this will be revealed in the near future. The opening of the centre will have a very positive impact on the local community, as health services will be available on the doorstep and residents can access a range of services without having to leave the area.
