Plans for a multi-million dollar dental programme have been unveiled in Prince Albert, Canada.

The $25 million programme will provide dental care for children who do not have dental insurance through their parents’ employers.

Dwain Lingenfelter, provincial NDP member, announced the launch of the programme and outlined plans to provide a range of routine services, including check-ups, fillings and sealants. He also added that the party was working on a reduced fee system for more complex dental treatments.

Lingenfelter said that investing in routine dental care now would save millions of dollars in the future, as preventative treatments are much cheaper than complex treatments. The programme will help to improve access to dental care for children without insurance and hopefully it will make a significant difference to standards of oral health among these children.
